Hòn Tranh, một hòn đảo nhỏ nằm giữa bốn bề sóng vỗ, cách đảo lớn (Phú Quý) khoảng 15 phút đi xuồng máy. Hòn Tranh nổi lên như một niềm kiêu hãnh giữa đại dương bao la ngập sóng. Gọi là hòn Tranh, vì lúc xưa nơi đây mọc nhiều cỏ tranh, người dân từ hòn lớn qua hòn Tranh làm rẫy, cắt cỏ tranh về lợp mái nhà. Theo những người cao tuổi ở đảo kể lại: “trước đây, hàng năm vào mùa gió Bấc, hải vật thường tấp vào bãi nồm của hòn Tranh, người ta lập đội Hải Môn để đi lấy. Trên hòn Tranh có Miếu thờ một vị tướng đã bảo vệ cho Nguyễn Phúc Ánh khi bị quân Tây sơn truy đuổi, được sắc vua Minh Mạng phong chức "Bắc Quân Đô Đốc Phủ Chưởng Phủ Sư Tạng Thái Bảo Trấn Thủ Quân Chi Thần". Năm 1976, Tôn Thất Quỳ, nha phái viên hành chính của chế độ cũ đặt thêm trong Miếu thờ ảnh Vua Gia Long.
